Champions League 2025-2026: Draw Drama and must-see matches

Following the conclusion of the draw in Monaco on August 28th, we're now aware of the opponents each team will face in the league phase. And let's just say this year promises to be another thriller with a well blended combination of classic showdowns that fans adore as well as newly-emerging rivalries. 2025/2026 League stage memorable.
This year’s campaign will now be the second under the newly adopted Swiss-style format. For a quick recap on how this system works: 36 teams will play 8 games against different opponents to earn points. 4 Matches will be played at home and 4 away. The top 8 teams will automatically qualify for the Round of 16 whilst those placed 9th-24th will enter the play-offs to secure their spot in the knockout stage.
Whilst there is an extensive list of matches that will be played, we have picked out some of the most eye-catching that we are looking forward to.
Liverpool have been given a competitive draw consisting of some of Europe’s most skilled teams. The clashes that are most notable in particular however are their meetings with Real Madrid and Inter Milan. Liverpool are sure to be put to the test as the Premier League titleholders ready to face one of their recent rivals and last year’s runner-up. Will recently transferred Trent Alexander-Arnold make a meaningful impact for Real as he returns to Anfield?
Manchester City will be facing a reunion with one of their familiar foes as well as recently departed star player, Kevin De Bruyne. In the league phase they have been pitted against Real Madrid and Napoli. Real Madrid are always an opponent to be fearful of, whilst we also remain curious to see what tricks Napoli have up their sleeve.
Few teams have been given a tougher draw than current trophy holders, Paris Saint-Germain. Their schedule will include meetings with football titans, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, as well as Europa League Champions, Tottenham. It will be interesting to see how Luis Enrique’s side navigate this challenge as they attempt to defend their first Champions League title.
Newcastle United return to Europe’s premier club cup competition after an absence last year. They have been given a glamorous draw consisting of two heavy hitters, Barcelona and PSG. Expect blockbuster nights under the lights of St James Park as the Magpies skill and determination is sure to be tested. Can they compete with the best?

The Knockout Play-off draw will take place on January 30th, played from 17th-25th February. Once this has concluded, the Round of 16 draw will be held on February 27th with the first game kicking off on March 10th.
