The 2027 Spanish Super Cup is heading to Turkey in a major change to the competition’s previous arrangements, with Istanbul set to welcome four of Spain’s best football clubs in February. The tournament is set to take place from February 2nd to February 6th 2027 and will feature Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and Real Sociedad competing for national glory. Besides the usual drama and action to look forward to, this is also the first time Turkey has been chosen to host the competition, representing a significant departure from recent editions, which have been held in Saudi Arabia since 2020.

The primary reason behind this move is Saudi Arabia hosting the 2027 Asian Cup, which is taking place from January 7th to February 5th. As a result, Spanish football officials began searching for an alternative destination with various international proposals before choosing Istanbul. Importantly, the move is supposed to be temporary, with the Spanish Super Cup scheduled to return to Saudi Arabia in 2028. Istanbul was chosen due to its established football infrastructure and passionate fanbase, making it an ideal spot for a tournament of this calibre.

The 2027 Spanish Super Cup will feature Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and Real Sociedad, with two semi-finals set to determine which clubs advance to the final.
The opening game will see defending champions Barcelona face off against Atlético Madrid on February 2nd at Fenerbahçe’s Chobani Stadium in a highly anticipated clash where Barcelona will be aiming to retain their crown against domestic rivals. The following evening, runners-up Real Madrid will be taking on Real Sociedad at Beşiktaş's Tüpraş Stadium with a place in the final at stake. Both matches promise competitive encounters with all four clubs hungry to begin the new year with one of Spain’s top trophies under their belt. The winners will then meet on February 6th at Galatasaray’s RAMS Park, where the next Spanish Super Cup champion will be crowned in a historic new edition of the tournament.

Although the tournament’s stay in Turkey will only be short, the temporary relocation will offer a unique opportunity for supporters to experience Spanish football in a different setting. Istanbul’s famous football culture combined with the presence of four Spanish clubs, creates the elements for a tournament that fans won’t soon forget.
