Elche Club de Futbol were founded in 1923 following a merger of all the local teams in the town. Whilst having little silverware, their best finish in the top flight was back in 1964 where they finished 5th place as well as being runners-up in the 1969 Copa del Rey.

They are currently under the management of Eder Sarabia who took the helm in June 2024 and helped the club earn promotion to Spain's top flight, marking their first return since their relegation in 2023.

Estadio Martinez Valero has been Elche’s home ground since its construction in 1976. Its most famous appearance was hosting the Copa del Rey final back in 2003.
